Rainy days and Fridays

It's raining and gloomy, just like it was yesterday. I left work early and drove home, canceling two classes. My throat was scratchy, I was aching, my head was hurting, and I just felt generally awful. The night before, I'd had fever off and on, and I kept having chills. However, I don't think it is the flu. I had weird hallucinatory dreams all night last night, and I still feel achy, but I'm better than I was yesterday.

Today is my 38th wedding anniversary. We had plans to do something (go see "Where the Wild Things Are"), but obviously today won't be the day. My department chair's little boy was born this morning at 1 a.m. In sadder news, a Ferris student was killed while crossing the street this morning. They haven't released the name yet. Chances are good that I won't know the student, but it still shocks and devastates me.

Today's photo is of my high school (and grammar school) arch-nemesis Donna Jo. She still looks pretty young, better than most of the others. We battled it out for GPAs, and she could get downright nasty and mean when she wanted to. She used to have a tremendous crush on Paul, the husband of the late Becky.

In going back through my yearbook, I've discovered that there are seven of us who are dead now. Nearly a seventh of the group! Will there be even half of us left by the fiftieth reunion? I suppose I should be happy to be out of Cancer Alley.
