The storms that came through yesterday took out the power to over 30,000 West Michiganders, but fortunately, not to me or the Esteemed Spouse. I did steal a photo from the local tv station, though, showing a tree crashed through someone's shed.
It's been cloudy and somewhat windy today, but the forecast isn't calling for more rain until tomorrow. For some bizarre reason, the building's air conditioning is running full blast today.
It's been a frustrating day. My printer ran out of ink, and I had to get the office worker to help me change out the printer cartridge. My label maker ran out of tape, and its batteries died. My academic classroom management system (which we call FerrisConnect, but most people know it as Blackboard) has caused me to spend the day inputting grades over and over. It keeps timing out too quickly. I had to put in 50 students' grades three times. At that point, my frustration level was intense.
Then the journals I'd graded caused me to feel grumpy because several students wrote about the "choice" of homosexuality. I mentioned this to a colleague, who apparently is one of these religious people who believes being gay or lesbian IS a choice and began to challenge me. We were fortunately interrupted by another colleague before I told the religious colleague that being stupid must be a "choice," too--one he has made.
I slept badly last night. It didn't seem to matter which side I tried to sleep on. I felt sore. So once I got to school, I ordered a "featherbed" topper in hopes that I can get a few more years out of this mattress. Let's hope the topper comes before I head back to BR from home next Monday. It won't, but I can always dream....
