Mary, Sheila, and Me

I'm having so much fun going through these old family photos. Today's offering is one taken in a photo booth (remember them?) of my sister Sheila, my cousin Mary, and me. I'm the "cute" one with the pigtails. I used to wear pigtails all the time. My high school boyfriend Gary loved them and teased me about them. I just found it a convenient way to wear my long curly hair. In Louisiana's heat and humidity, long hair can be a lot of trouble, but of course, since Mary wore hers long, I had to wear mine long, too.

Sheila is not as fashion-driven. I used to tease her about her long giraffe neck, but in truth, I was jealous! My own short fat neck is hardly the stuff of romance novels. Even now, Sheila has a good figure. In the photo, both of us look pretty good for poverty-stricken country girls who didn't know much about fashion or sophistication. Mary, of course, looks beautiful. She always looks beautiful to me, simply because I know she has such a beautiful soul. There are people in the world who are good to the bone, and my cousin Mary is one of them.
