I opened up another box of old pictures and began to sort through them. A small white envelope had a couple of photos in it, and to my great amazement, one of them is a photo of my grandfather Cockerham! That's him in the bottom photo. The figure behind him is Grandma Cockerham (see previous blog). No wonder she covered up her head with that scarf. I don't think the poor old woman had much hair! When I first saw this photo many, many years ago (and for the life of me, I can't remember where it came from), I thought it was a man in the chair behind Grandpa. Daddy told me that it was his mother.
You can see the poverty in which they lived, though Grandpa seems well dressed compared to Grandma. Why do I suspect that he was a relatively self-centered man? If so, that's totally unlike his son (my father), who was the world's most generous human being. I'm adding another photo that I also discovered today. It's of Daddy and me. That's the one on top. I don't have much hair then, either, do I?
