Another loss

It's too odd to hear of a family death via Facebook, but lately that's how it is. This morning I was saddened to hear of the death of Edgar Jeter. Edgar was married to my cousin Edna Mae. They lived next door to us for many years, and he was my father's employer off and on. I remember so much about him: his shiny bald head, his cheerful disposition, his human power. Like my father, he was a logger, but he ran the logging operation and his own mill. He'd lost a couple of fingers to the mill blades. He was known to be stubborn to the nth degree. My "childhood movie" blurs past with images of Edgar working outdoors, like my father did.

I don't think I have a photograph of Edgar, but I wish I did. So I've posted one instead of Mama, Daddy, and Edna Mae that I don't think I've put up before. Edgar is probably the person taking the photo. I remember that he was in the Merchant Marines as a young man. Not that that has anything to do with anything else. Daddy admired the fact that both Edgar and his brother Felton (two of six sons born to the Jeters) both finished high school.

I am so not ready for school to begin.
