Barack Obama's speech was every bit as good as I expected it would be. He really has a powerful way with words and a powerful voice to deliver those words. Best yet, his steady gaze makes it seem as if he is looking directly at each of us. Al Gore, who spoke earlier in the evening, also delivered a show-stopping oration. It's a pity he's so much more popular now than he used to be. I still think if he'd selected someone other than Joe Lieberman as his veep choice, his election would have been a shoe-in. Lest anyone think I am being anti-Semitic in criticizing Lieberman, I want to point out that his behavior (changing from Democrat to Independent just to get reelected and palsy-walsying around with McCain in hopes of being HIS veep pick) is suggestive of someone who lacks the moral high ground. And this is kind of personal, but I'd rather listen to a catfight than listen to Lieberman speak. I cannot bear that whiny nasal voice of his!
Alas, we've got a whiny nasal voice to listen to with McCain's shocking veep choice: the woman governor of Alaska, whom no one had ever heard of before. She's a former beauty contestant, former basketball player, former small-town mayor, lifelong NRA member, rabid anti-choice spokesperson, with five children, one of whom has Down syndrome. She advocates more drilling for oil and gas in Alaska's wildlife preserves. Her last name is Palin, and I think (not sure) her first name is Sarah.
On a totally different note, (the name Sarah reminded me), we will be giving my friend Sarah our old 50-inch tv. Yes, the gadget guru couldn't stand it. He bought a new tv. This one is slightly smaller (46 inches), and we've mounted it on the wall above the fireplace. That necessitated another change of the furniture, which we've been working on, off and on, all day. Nothing ever works really well with that room.
Down in Louisiana, another hurricane is brewing. My mother-in-law has a house full of South Louisiana relatives who are evacuating while the getting is good. Don't blame them. I just hope the hurricane doesn't cause a bunch of flooding since that's never easy to deal with.
My computer problem with my school must be my computer's fault since I can access everything easily on my husband's computer. He says he can fix some things that might help, so I'm getting off now so he can play.
