My exhaustive tale

I am still so tired I can barely function. Admittedly, I got up reasonably early this morning (8-ish), and I did do some work (sorting out what I want to bring to my office). I had a high-protein lunch, though, so I thought I'd get a second wind by now. Unfortunately, I'm just ready for a nap. My older son is likely to call any moment, though, so it won't do me any good to try to nap just yet.

I love my son dearly and very much enjoy talking to him. I just wish we could talk either earlier in the day, or later. When I'm groggy, I'm not much of a conversationalist.

My younger son's birthday is Monday. I'll be gone, so we'll probably try to wish him Happy Birthday on Sunday. Poor kid. He was born the day his brother started kindergarten. School usually starts on his birthday. We often aren't able to be with him on his birthday because we're trying to gear up for our fall semesters. No one has the ideal birthday, though. My husband's birthday is too close to Christmas, for example. But I feel bad because my younger son has to get what's left of our time, if there is any. Maybe his wife will make much ado over him and make him feel special.

I read on Ellie's blog that they're being inundated with rain from Tropical Storm Fay. It's now headed west toward Louisiana. According to my mother-in-law, they've had quite a bit of rain this week already, so I doubt they're eager to greet Fay. Here I am wishing we would get some rain. There's a little line of storms off to our northwest, but lately, these lines form and dissipate before they get to Grand Rapids.

This morning's political news is that Obama has selected Joe Biden as a running mate. I feel rather apathetic about that. I don't feel very strongly pro or con, but probably a touch more con than pro. Biden is a White House insider, given his six terms as a Senator. He reeks of schmooze, with his too-white, too-perfect teeth. I rather expected Obama to be a bit more daring with his choice of running mate. After all, if your platform is based on change, shouldn't you try to stay away from people who have been part of the status quo for so long? Still, for those who feel Obama is too much change already, I guess having someone with a familiar face is "safer" than if Obama had selected someone radical.

Perhaps this leaves McCain with the option of picking an unusual running mate. Maybe a woman. One thing's for sure, if he picks Joe Lieberman, he might as well bend over and kiss his ass good-bye. Of course, he'll probably play it safe, too, and pick Mitt Romney. Romney is so slick and polished, he makes Biden look rough-edged and unsophisticated. Both of them give me a skin-crawling feeling. The world has belonged to men like that for far too long.

It's going to be a long political season. It already has been a long political season. November cannot come soon enough. That is, unless we wind up with another fiasco like the past two elections have been.
