Rabid beast

I was about ten miles out of Big Rapids when I saw something in the road up ahead. There was no traffic, so this thing in the road stood out. I couldn't tell what it was, but the size was about right for a small child or a large dog. As I drew nearer, slowing down to about 15 mph, I could see that it was a doglike creature. It lurched and swayed around, slowly getting off on the side of the road. I could see its face clearly. It wasn't afraid.

People at work said it was a coyote and that it was probably rabid. Scary. The photo I've used is from Google images for coyote, but I also downloaded a fox photo in case that is what it was.

My trip up was otherwise uneventful. I spent the morning at the dentist's having my teeth laboriously cleaned. Then I rushed home and got my stuff ready for the week in BR. Esteemed Spouse headed out before I did. We hated to leave poor Simon home alone, with him acting so sick. It would not surprise me for him to have to go to the vet tomorrow. He's barely eaten or drunk water for a couple of days now. And he threw up everywhere from the master bedroom to the basement. Fingers crossed that he won't be worse when my husband gets home in a couple of hours.

I had my meeting with my department chair today. It was uneventful. He said he'd never seen higher student evaluations.

I wrote a letter of reference for a student and submitted a conference proposal. I'm also going to submit a proposal for the popular culture conference.

I'm so tired. Last night I didn't sleep well. Let's hope tonight will be better.
