Finally, it's Thursday afternoon. I just finished teaching my last class, and now I have to go to a graduating senior's presentation. It begins in about an hour and (I hope) lasts an hour or less. Then I'll have to drive back to the apartment in the dark and in the snow (only three blocks), to spend another night before going home. I just don't trust myself to drive back to Grand Rapids tonight. I'm exhausted from too little sleep last night and from a busy week this week, and the weather will be semi-treacherous. It will still be bad tomorrow, but at least it will be daylight. Headlights glaring off snow are hard to deal with for someone like me. It's about the only time I regret having had radial keratotomy so many years ago. The little scars on my eyes' corneas create a halo effect at the best of times, and nighttime and snowfall are not the best of times.
The apartment has been too hot all week, like living in a blast furnace. My little thermostat has shown a pretty steady 77-78 degrees all week, which is far too warm for comfortable sleeping. (Humidity levels are under 30 percent, quite painful!) I notified the landlady, and supposedly she has taken care of the problem (well, the handyman has, at any rate), so I'm hoping for a better night's sleep. Around two-thirty this morning, I got up to get a drink of water. I noticed that I felt shaky, so I took my blood sugar reading. It was 55, far too low. So I ate a banana and went back to bed to roast some more.
Today we had our last Faculty Colloquium of the semester. It was a wonderful hit, sort of an "open mike" hour. I called it Snippets and Snapshots, and faculty from several disciplines read from their own works, each for five minutes. One woman from marketing showed a slide show. It was wonderful. I feel I've created a big hit and have been approached to do it again next semester. There may be no room on the schedule, though, since I have several people lined up to do presentations that will take the whole hour.
I suppose I should mention the bigger news of the week, which is that Esteemed Spouse emailed me that he's bought a red Toyota Rav4. We're going to "donate" Pearl (the white Avalon) to our older son. At least that's the plan at this point. Hubby has not yet picked up the new vehicle. That may happen tomorrow. We're going to name her Ruby.
Simon is supposedly still weak but on the mend. I hope so. He's a precious little beast, and I love him. I don't want to lose him.
A tiny little sinus or headache pain is starting to form right above my left eye. Oh, how I wish I could at least be back in the apartment, ready to settle in to finish my book, maybe to do some art work.
