500th blog entry

Wow. What a busy couple of weeks it has been! I stayed up in Big Rapids for two weeks, trying to get caught up. My Esteemed Spouse drove up on Saturday, and we went to Betty's Christmas party together. It was fun. We sang Christmas songs in English, French, Spanish, German, and Polish. I should say that I hummed for the ones not in English.

I'm still grading papers, and my family is due to arrive tomorrow night about 9:30 p.m. I've still got more decorating, gift wrapping, cleaning, and cooking to do, in addition to the paper-grading. Today I did laundry, graded papers, and went to another Christmas party at my husband's department chair's house. My own department chair called earlier with my tentative fall schedule. Yuck. Two Tech Writing classes. And maybe two regular comp classes. Who knows. Senior faculty requested and got "my" Justice in Lit class(es). Damn it. Just when I'd gotten it working like I wanted it to work. I really do not want to teach tech writing, but what the hell. At least the assignments tend to be short.

Mike's and Pam's annual Christmas card arrived with the kids' picture. I so love getting that picture. Andy and Jordan have grown up in front of me, via their Christmas photograph. Jordan is a young woman now, and Andy is on the verge of manhood. Wow. I'm not measuring out my life with coffee spoons as much as I'm measuring it out with Christmas photographs. Beautiful happy young people, loved deeply by their parents. What could be more wonderful?

I'd hoped to have a much more exciting 500th blog, but I'm far too tired. It's been a long day, and tomorrow will be even busier. I can hardly wait to pick up the kids at the airport.

I forgot to mention that there was a home invasion just down the street. A police officer came to our house to ask if we had seen anything. Nope. But you can bet we'll be especially vigilant now that we have experienced crime in our neighborhood.

So tired. So busy. So ready for the break.
