My younger son has "taken me off his friends list" on Facebook because he feels "constrained" by my presence. I was on Facebook first. He was the one who joined and sent me a friend invitation. Geez. Will he EVER grow up? Mary and her daughters keep in touch all the time on Facebook, with apparently no problems. But then, my son isn't the easy-going critter that Mary's girls seem to be.
He had commented on Facebook that he was alone in the apartment. Apparently Stephen and Heather have gone somewhere for a few days. Nice of them to let us know, eh? Yet we will be there, ready and willing to hand over large sums of cash next time any of them need it. Maybe we should write a "civility clause" into our relationship. You don't get the money unless you treat us like family, which means not hiding from us. Not keeping secrets. Talking to us without acting like we're sticking bamboo shoots up under your fingernails. That goes for Stephen as much as for Daniel. Maybe if they had been girls.... Well, it's too late now.
It has been one heck of a long day, and I've still got the three-hour nightclass to teach. That starts in forty minutes. I've been in my office since 8 a.m. (after not sleeping well), trying to get work done. I've finally gotten the Colloquium off the ground. Heave. Heave. Push, push, grunt. I spent an hour in yet another meeting to teach us how to advise the precious pre-pharmacy students. My office is like a refrigerator today. I've seen three students: two current and one former. I've sent innumerable e-mails, and I've even done a little grading, but nowhere near enough.
My shoulder blades feel like someone has stapled them together at the base of my neck.
