Necklace hangers

I ordered two different necklace hangers from two different companies. I made the orders on the same day, but I was given two different delivery dates and two different carriers (FedEx and US Post Office). Happily, both arrived yesterday, and we hung them. Then I got to display my collection of necklaces, ranging from relatively nice to extremely cheap, such as the two I have that discolor my neck when I wear them. But I really like necklaces, especially ones that say something about who I am.

My most precious necklace is the black pearl necklace that my kids bought me for my 2007 graduation from Mizzou. I also have a string (a very SHORT string) of manmade pearls. I have the necklace that Stephen and Heather gave me with the magnetic clasp when I was suffering such shoulder pain. Very thoughtful of them.

Anyway, no one would ever make the big bucks at the pawn shop if they stole my jewelry collection to pawn it, and in fact, most of the jewelry I have is more sentimental than monetarily valuable. That's what most of my possessions are. I don't really care about having expensive things so much as I care about having things that I enjoy. I've got funky taste, perhaps, but that's okay, too. Give me something you made yourself (or give me something that helps me to make something myself). Don't worry about diamonds and emeralds and gold. I'd rather have a photo my husband took hanging on the wall than a photo that Ansel Adams took, if I had to worry about insuring it. Not to disparage my husband's talent as a photographer, by the way. He's an excellent photographer.

We've been chatting a bit about some quickie vacations that we can take. Since we apparently have to go visit relatives with our vacation time (sigh), and a trip like Hawaii is once in a lifetime (double sigh), we figure we will feel less guilt if we take several long weekends. It's easier on the cat, too. He doesn't handle our being gone for longer than a few days. We worry about him, too.

I'm just rambling, I think, so I'll end this blog.
