I spent the last couple of days up in Big Rapids. In fact, I was there on Monday, then back on Tuesday evening to spend Wednesday and part of Thursday. I got a lot done. I scoped out my classrooms (always an adventure), straightened my office, more or less finished my syllabi, met with a couple of students, went to a couple of meetings. Also this week, we refinanced the house to take advantage of the lower interest rates. We changed from a 30-year mortgage (we had 22 years left on that one) to a 15-year mortgage, all for a monthly cost of only $100 more a month. We are also hoping to get a home-improvement loan since we want to tear off the back deck and build a sunroom and porch instead. The carpenter we want to do the work will be coming over next Friday to give us a bid and talk about ideas.
I took a photo of a partly reddened leaf on the deck yesterday. My friend (a horticulturist) says it's not the first leaf of fall, just one that died prematurely and fell out of the tree. Still, we've had a couple of nights in the low 40s, so I have my doubts, even if our local weather forecaster says we're going to have a mild fall. It was actually so chilly in our bedroom last night that we both got cold and had to turn off the ceiling fan.
I'm feeling distracted by the many things I need to do today, so I'll try to write more later this weekend.
