It could not be a more beautiful morning. The heat and humidity are finally down, so I've got windows open and the attic fan running. Esteemed Spouse will be back tonight, presuming that the bad weather over toward Boston doesn't delay the flight. I promised him a banana pudding, so I need to do that soon.
I spent yesterday at my arts and crafts projects and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Nothing makes me happier than painting. I'm taking a break from the portraits at the moment and spending time on some wooden items that I've had for a while.
In one week I'll have to be in Big Rapids for meetings, announcing that summer is over. Sigh. It has been lovely while it lasted, and it's easy to see why retirement holds such appeal for those of us who enjoy arts and crafts and travel.
Today's photo is my old home place in Olla, Louisiana. Daddy and Mama built it, but it looks nothing like it used to look. Where is the pin oak tree out front? The garage or shed on the left was not there before, and of course, the basketball goal is new. We had a hoop hung in an old oak tree near the wash house, which probably isn't there any longer, either. We didn't take long in our drive down to the end of West Avenue (pretentious name for a tiny little street). When I was a kid growing up there, we always ran outside or plastered ourselves to the window when someone drove down our road. We were the only ones who lived on the dead-end segment of our street, so either someone was coming to visit us, or they were turning around, and being the unsophisticated yokels we were, we had to see which it was. :-)
So we drove down the street and turned around while I snapped one quick cell phone shot of the old home that my parents began when I was not quite 7 years old.
