Chock full

I've just finished my very long teaching block. It began at 8 a.m. and finished up around 2:30. My classes are great, and I think I'll really like everyone in them. Only a couple of people were absent today. That always happens. My tech writing classes are mostly male (3 women in one, 4 in another). My advanced comp is mostly female (only 3 men), and my English 250 has maybe 6 men and the rest women. Probably it all evens out in the wash.

Last night was a long night. I got to the apartment, unloaded, and then spent a couple of hours or so at the office. Then I bought a few groceries. Somehow, while unloading the plastic bags from my trunk, my car keys got tangled in the plastic bag handle of one of the bags. I jerked to free the keys, the key ring wire snapped, and it punctured my right index finger. I managed to bleed all over my groceries, and then when I went to fix my key ring, I could not find my car key. It was locked in the car trunk, where it had slid following the incident.

So my finger bandaged, I settled in for a long night of sweating. It was 84 degrees when I went to bed and only 74 when I got up. I didn't sleep well, especially since I heard from my brother Delmer that our sister Sheila was in the hospital following a heart attack. She is still there, and they are running tests on her: EKG, EEG, MRI, stress test. I hope to call later to find out the results. Oh, how I wish she would quit smoking! She had a stroke last year, and now a heart attack. I feel so grateful for my own reasonably good health.

One of my students just sent me a ten-paged single-spaced lifestory that includes all the abuse he has suffered because he is gay and has Aspergers. I'm really not quite sure whether to believe most of it. Groan. He's going to be a clinging vine, I can tell right now.

At least he writes. He writes reasonably well, actually, but I hope he won't see me as Mother Confessor with each and every assignment. Tech Writing isn't exactly conducive to that sort of writing.

It will be nice for the humidity to decrease this weekend, if indeed the forecast is correct.
