Horrible dreams

I dreamed last night that I had pain in my elbow, and when I looked, there were some nodules there. One seemed to be ulcerated, and when I squeezed it, globs of brownish jelly began to come out. I had filled up a gallon-sized baggie with this stuff, which I was showing to my husband. In addition to my elbow ailment, we were visiting with my mother-in-law and father-in-law. He has been gone since 2002, but in my dream he was alive but grayer and older. His almost nonexistent hair has been transformed into a cap of gray fuzzy curls. They had taken in this foster child, a little male infant whose age seemed to range from a few months to maybe three years old. This little kid was a little hellion, and apparently the stress of caring for him had done them in. The place was a mess. (My mother-in-law's house is always exceptionally neat and clean, btw.) They kept trying to feed this little tyke, and food was everywhere. I was also trying to help them feed him, and at one point, having missed my own meal to try to get food into this kid, I turned to my mother-in-law and asked, "How in the world did I gain so much weight when my own two kids were little?"

In reality, my left foot hurt. It felt fine when I went to bed, but somewhere around 3 a.m., I woke up with the sense that my foot was broken. I'd probably been sleeping oddly. Who knows. I decided to get up to go to the bathroom even though I did not need to go to the bathroom, just to see if I could "snap it back in place," so to speak. My first step on that foot was painful, but I could walk. The foot kept me awake for an hour or so. It still hurts this morning. Getting old, as I've repeatedly said, is not for sissies.

I also was having itchy allergy eyes last night and must have rubbed my right eye too hard because I now have a blood spot in the white of my eye.

Esteemed Spouse is leaving Friday morning for a conference. He'll be back Friday night.

Last night we ate at Olive Garden and then went to the newly remodeled Meijer grocery on Kalamazoo Avenue. This is the oldest Meijer location, being established there 50 years ago. They built the new store behind the old store, and the old store is still there, which means there is next-to-no parking. We could deal with that--after all, it's probably temporary. But the store itself was weird, confusing, and hard to maneuver around in. I think we'll continue to use the other Meijer instead. It's a little further away, but the parking is good and the layout is rational.

Less than three weeks left before school begins. I've already got meetings scheduled for Aug. 23 and 25 (my son's birthday).

Today's photo is of my uncle, Jim Cater. He's actually younger than I am by a few months (my grandmother's change-of-life baby). He died a few years ago of pancreatic cancer. I miss him a lot.
