We got home a little after 8 p.m. last evening. I slept well but I'm still exhausted this morning. At my "advanced" age, I usually need several days to recuperate from a visit to Louisiana. This time will definitely be no exception.
We found my mother-in-law to be in surprisingly good health, given that we'd gotten the impression that she "had given up" and was just sitting all day, doing nothing but reading. (To many in our families, that is "doing nothing." To me, it's being really busy and involved.) Instead, she put on her usual huge feast-after-feast, with lots of food and far too many sweets. We tried to keep her from doing that, but she was determined. She has a little hitch in her walk, and it takes her a minute or two to get up from her chair and get the hip aligned for walking, but she does pretty darned well. Her ankle does swell, but less so than my own do. All in all, she was only a little slower than before.
With great dread, we drove down to Jena, but even that visit went well. I'll write more about it when my mind feels clearer. Today my niece Elizabeth is getting married. I apologized that we could not stay long enough to be there for the wedding and gave her a pretty card with a check in it. We gathered at Tommy's house, which is clean and well air-conditioned, and aside from the terrific noise level (my least-favorite niece cannot speak in an indoor voice. Everything she says is like she's at a hog-calling contest.), we enjoyed seeing everyone.
Amber tried to "convert" me so I had to lay a lecture on her. It was her 18th birthday, so I figured she was finally old enough for me to share a few facts of life with her. More on that at another time.
Simon greeted us with many yowls of complaint about his blatant mistreatment. He'll get over it.
I keep trying to figure out how to send my Blackberry videos to my computer or at least to my Facebook account. It is beyond me at present.
