The photo is one my nephew's wife Teresa took of my niece Elizabeth at her wedding yesterday. Pretty bride, but lousy backdrop. These are rural people who go to a rural church, so I guess having a screen door and pickup truck as backdrops is as good as anything else for them.
If I'm not mistaken, Elizabeth is 18 years old. She dropped out of high school, just like her sister Stephanie did. Stephanie is in a "common law" marriage and has three children. She seems to have done a lot of growing up since she left home.
Amber turned 18 on Wednesday. She started trying to tell me about a video I should watch about how they had dug this hole in the earth in Siberia and dug through to hell and that people heard the screams of the damned and many people died. Yesterday I looked up this video, expecting it to be the hoax it was, and of course, there on www.snopes.com I found the whole story. I printed out the story and sent it to her. It won't make any different to people like Amber and her like-minded religious fundamentalists, but if they are going to try to "convert" me with their stupid crap, then I am going to fight back with the only weapons at my disposal: logic, reason, education. I never try to reason with some of them because they are immune to reason, but maybe all is not lost with Amber. (And I don't want to take away her only happiness. She's a "star" in her church and nowhere else, so I certainly want her to have what she can have, if it makes her happy. But it takes away MY happiness to be attacked with conversion purposes in mind, so I won't allow that.
I am still so tired!
