Somnolent Sunday

I've slept too much and drunk too much coffee today, so tonight I probably won't sleep worth a hoot. Of course, tomorrow is a holiday, but I still have to drive back to Big Rapids in time for my 8 a.m. class on Tuesday. Additionally, a couple of students will be dropping by tomorrow to see me. Groan. It's started already.

Last night I dreamed I was a finalist on American Idol. Somehow, though, I had not yet sung in front of anyone, and I was trying desperately to put my own spin on some song that I don't now recall.

My sister Sheila has been released from the hospital As best I can tell, even though the medical people told her she had had a heart attack, they ran a lot of tests and got a lot of negatives, and their diagnosis wound up being myasthenia gravis. I looked up that disease, and nothing suggested to me that it could be misdiagnosed as a heart attack. WTF? Today's photo is an old one that my husband took of me, my sisters, and my mother. I'm starting to look more and more like Mama as time passes.

The young contractor who had done my husband's colleague's sunroom came out on Friday and talked with us about doing one for us. I really think we can trust him to do a good job. He struck me as really intelligent, hard-working, and honest. I'm eager to have it done. Primarily, I am eager to get rid of that blight we call a deck. When we bought the house, the previous owners had had the poor taste to paint the whole deck a bright robin's egg blue, which clashed hideously with the beige aluminum siding. Our paint job, much praised for its elegant neutral tones, is peeling off now, and that disgusting blue is popping back out in spots. But we don't want to paint or restain a deck that is about to become firewood. So I want this project done sooner rather than later.

Changing topics, apparently my newlywed niece Elizabeth is pregnant. Aw, shucks, I am just so shocked. Not.

It's been beautiful today. Yesterday the clouds hung over constantly. It looked like doom was upon us. The temps have been high 60s-70degrees, so we are thrilled with the break in heat. It's supposed to return tomorrow, though. Just in time for my trying to sleep at the apartment!

Friday morning we're signing our home refinance papers.

I'm still mourning Lynn. I just cannot believe that she is gone and that I will never hear her throaty laugh again. She'd call, after we had not heard from her in months, if not a year, and she'd say, "Hey. Whatcha doin'?" and I needed no identification. Sadly, during our conversation I'd hear her puffing on her cigarette. I am always going to regret not making more of an effort to keep in touch with her.

Mizzou won their football game against Illinois yesterday. Yes! Now we just need the Saints to have another winning season.
