Artprize Sunday

We had a wonderful day traipsing around Artprize yesterday. We didn't see even half of what was being shown, but the crowds were dense, so we hope to get back to see other pieces next weekend. Today's photo is one of my favorite pieces. It's hard to see from my cell phone picture, but the figure's fingers extend into the chains that drape to the ground. "Drape" isn't the right word. It's like the figure has either erupted from the ground, or the ground has reached up into the person's hands... I don't know how to describe it. The figure is pulling against the restraints. I found that powerful.

Some of the exhibits were really pathetic: a clothesline of crap hanging on it. I told my husband that I wanted to do a clothesline with bottles of various types of liquors hanging on it, interspersed with pictures of drunk drivers, maybe pieces from wrecked cars, bloody clothing, all the evidence of drunk driving, and call it "Hung Out to Dry."

Now it's Monday, and I've got to get myself in gear to drive back to Big Rapids. If the usual happens, I'll have internet through Wednesday morning, and then it will go away and not come back until I return the following Monday. I just don't know why. My Esteemed Spouse has talked about driving up tomorrow to help, but I'd rather he come on Wednesday.

We got the bid on the screened room, and though I felt it was reasonable ($20,500), the Spouse said we couldn't afford it unless we (a) cut back about $700 a month on expenses and (b) did the job in two or more stages. So we're going to try to do both. Both of us listed ways we could cut back on our expenses. I wanted to say, but did not, that if he just left off golf, we'd be able to save $200 or more a month. And of course, faithful readers will recall that he insisted on replacing the bedroom tv when it began to have problems with the TiVo signal. Gee, that was necessary, given that we watch that tv only 10-20 minutes a day, if that. I am going to temporarily stop buying books (easier now that the Kentwood Library is so close to us!) and stop "living" at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and JoAnne's. I've got enough hobbies and craft stuff to last me a couple of years anyway.

I suppose I'd better get busy so I can get on the road. Groan. Oh, I did offer to sublet the apartment, but he FINALLY admitted that it's a tax write-off, so it doesn't really cost us anything.
