Thanksgiving coming

Andy Rooney on "Sixty Minutes" was going on and on about Thanksgiving, how it was a day where no one had to do anything but sit around and eat and watch televised football games. I guess the old coot has forgotten who cooked the meal and who likely did the dishes. My husband and I were fighting the crazed crowds at our local grocery store this afternoon, and I was honestly glad not to have to be buying turkey and all the trimmings. More times than I can count, I've gotten up at 6 a.m. or earlier to get the turkey on. I'd cook for HOURS, then somehow the meal seemed to take only a few minutes to eat before everyone would rush back to the living room to watch more tv. I'd happily do it again if my sons were coming for Thanksgiving, but I doubt that I'll ever have them for Thanksgiving. They're just too far away.

Simon continues to improve, though he scratches at his neck where the pain patch and its wrapping apparently are driving him nuts. He's eating soft wet food and doing okay, though he seems to have lost a lot of weight. I can feel all his back bones. When I got up this morning, he was lying in the foyer in a spot of sunlight, and he didn't look alive. When I spoke to him, though, he popped up and demanded some petting. He wove between my feet and "told me all about it." Yesterday he had done very little meowing, probably because moving his mouth hurt. He's made up for it today.

I'm going to fight the snow to drive to Big Rapids to spend the day tomorrow. Then I have the rest of the week at home. It will be nice to have time with my husband. We miss each other during the week. He has to teach tomorrow, but then he also has the rest of the week off.

His friend Dave called today and I told him about the cortisone injection I'm supposed to have on Tuesday. Dave had apparently had one in his knee some time ago and found it horribly painful. I'm expecting it to be painful, but if it helps me move my arm without agony, it will be worth it. Once again, I had a lot of discomfort trying to sleep last night.

Since I need to get up early, I guess I'd better start getting ready for bed.
