Black Friday

As hard as it is for me to imagine, people were lining up yesterday to get deals at Best Buy. According to the news, some people get there early and get the deals and vouchers, only to "set up shop" in the parking lot to sell what they just bought to later arrivals. Mercenary. Icky. The American way?

We had to wait in line at Cracker Barrel for ONLY 35 minutes yesterday, though it's hard to say we were in a line. We were practically crammed into one little space, the place was so full. The meal was good (I got the turkey and dressing, my spouse got his usual chicken-fried chicken), and we enjoyed being surrounded by hundreds of friendly strangers. Later, we snoozed in front of the tv, talked to my mother-in-law a while, watched a little more tv, talked to one son, watched more tv, and talked to the other son. We had the fireplace crackling (does gas crackle? and if it does, is that a good or a bad thing?).

Later today I have to have the MRI of my neck. I'm not looking forward to it, but at least I know it isn't painful. (My previous one wasn't painful, at any rate.) If it weren't for the crowds at the stores, I'd like to go shopping, but that probably won't happen. After waiting for me while I have the MRI, my husband will probably want to head back home. Maybe I can persuade him to hit a store or two, but I doubt it. We've both gotten where we prefer online shopping.

I didn't mention someone important to me in my Gratitude blog, and that's Heather, my daughter-in-law. Often I find myself missing her as much as and sometimes more than my older son. I worry about her a lot, too. Her family is having trouble (health issues), so she's stressed. She's such a sweetheart, and so kind and loving, that anyone who didn't like her would be weird. I miss my former daughter-in-law Wendy, too, but I guess I need to get over that.

Much snow is in the forecast, but then, we are about to begin December. There's an escaped murderer on the loose in Big Rapids, and rumor has it that he's hiding out in a vacant house near the jail. (There are a lot of those.) I drive down that street on my way back and forth between Betty's and school, so until this guy is caught, I think I'll take an alternative route. Betty is off in Chicago for the holiday, so I'm hoping her son and his gigantic dog are staying at her house. It would be rather horrible to find that the murderer had been camping out in my bedroom!
