Re-opening my blog

I may regret it, but I have re-opened my blog to anyone who wants to read it. I suspect that the one or two people who were reading it have dropped off anyway, so maybe I've "hidden" long enough that I've gotten rid of a couple of followers who appeared out of the blue and were not people I knew or had ever heard of. Sometimes I think I ought to change the name of my blog, because I half suspect that "English Composition" is misleading to people who want to improve their English language skills. My original reason for the name, though, was that I teach English Composition, I compose in English, and it's core to who I am.

So--if you are jumping on to this blog, thinking I'm going to help you with English syntax, go somewhere else. If you want to read the rantings of a middle-aged nontheistic feminist, then you're in the right place. Just don't try to engage me in an argument in this location. It's my blog. I'll say whatever I want to say. If you want to rant, get your own blog. :-)

I've been going toe-to-toe on Facebook with a few people regarding religion. My younger son says I'm trolling. I'm not exactly sure that I understand why I would be trolling when generally, I am either responding to what others have said to me, or assuming (fairly, I think) that if someone "friends" me and posts something, then I have the right to comment. (I know. I just finished telling the world not to engage me in argument on my blog, but I write the blog for myself. I write Facebook posts for others.)

Daylight Saving Time begins tonight. Groan. It means getting up earlier so we can have more daylight later. At least I will be able to drive back to Kentwood after class on Wednesday without having to drive in the dark. I've got a lot going on at school lately, though, so I may not always be able to come home on Wednesday, or even on Thursday.

My Esteemed Spouse has turned off the touchpad on my laptop so that it won't interfere with my typing. Of course, though I hardly ever use the touchpad because I prefer a mouse, there are times when I don't want to lug the mouse along. So I do need to learn how to turn it back on again. We got the helpful hint from my older son.

I haven't mentioned how impressive my two sons' and my daughter-in-law's intellects are to me. As someone who has taught for a very long time, I know smart when I talk to it. All three of these young people, who are the dearest human beings in my life (along with my husband), are smart, funny, witty, critical thinkers. If only others were! I really get tired of the ditto-heads. Even the pharmacy students can be ditto-heads. Most of them aren't, but a few of them are.

Heather has torn ligaments in her right wrist right now, and while we were visiting, she wore a wrist guard. The doctor says these should have healed on their own but did not, so she's going to a specialist next week. She may have to have surgery, but I certainly hope not. My shoulder surgery (which was not even invasive) was one of the most painful experiences of my life. (And I need to get back to the arm and shoulder exercises because I can feel both shoulders stiffening up again.)

I just avoided a chat with my mother-in-law. I don't dislike talking to her, but I'm just not in the mood right now to talk to anyone. I'm letting my fingers do the talking. I'll have to send her a long email later or maybe a greeting card.

The weather today is cold. The wind is howling. The sky is dark. Maybe, if I live long enough, Spring will come again. It's starting to feel as if this winter has lasted at least a year so far.
