It's quite cold, down to zero last night. (Or 4 degrees, depending on which weather person one listens to.) But the sun is shining brightly, glittering off the snow and ice. The patio sliding doors were covered in condensation this morning when we pulled the blinds. Simon likes to lick the condensation off, but this was a bit beyond his tiny pink tongue, so Esteemed Spouse wiped down the glass so we could enjoy the sun.
Yesterday we went to the grocery store and then to the pet store for cat food. I love to visit the cats there, all rescues, and wish we could adopt one or more of them. There were two I really liked yesterday. Martin was a huge yellow-and-white tom with a pink nose and a wise look on his face. Another cat whose name I forget (I would have changed it anyway) had exquisite blue-green eyes and a really friendly and winning personality. This one was what is usually called a tabby, gray and white. But Simon is enough right now, and he's certainly an expensive cat, with his special diet and constant hair issues. We burn through vacuum cleaners on a regular basis. I think both Esteemed Spouse and I are agreed that our next cat(s) will be a short-hair, despite how beautiful the long-haired cats are.
My beloved husband is good at so many things, but self-denial isn't one of them. He began to yearn for a new camera, a really good one, an expensive one. "After all, we're going to Hawaii," he argued. So he talked himself into his new Nikon and is now studying the manual so he can regain his expertise. He has not enjoyed the digital revolution since his favorite part of photography was the dark room, but that's akin to cooking in a wood stove now. No one does film now, unless they are serious full-time photographers. And even then.... I wonder if he'll let me have the last expensive camera he bought that sits basically unused most of the time. I use my little flip video camera to take short video clips far more often than he has used that camera, which is probably one or two years old.
Speaking of the trip to Hawaii, I broke down and ordered a swimsuit. We'll see. I may have spent that money for nothing if I can't force myself to reveal my saggy-baggy body. I keep looking for a good swimsuit cover-up, but so far, I haven't found anything I like.
We are somewhat worried about the effects of that storm that plowed through the middle of the country, straight across where my two sons and daughter-in-law live. There have been reports of power outages, so I guess we'll find out later how they have been affected.
