Okay, world, all of you out there who read my blog, maybe four people. I'm gonna say it once and then let it go. The news is NOT that Favre screwed up. Who cares. He's like whack-a-mole. He'll retire again and then come back to football again probably at least two more times. Forget him. The NEWS is that, after 43 years of mostly losing seasons, the SAINTS are going to the Super Bowl. THAT is the news. But it is not the news you'll find being reported by the media. IF you can even find coverage AT ALL of the game, it's all about "poor Favre," the darling of the sports world, the token middle-aged-man-makes-good. Whoopee-shit.
And have you EVER seen such biased coverage as those announcers covering the game? I thought for sure that at any moment, they'd have to stop the game so those announcers could crown Favre Homecoming King or something. The way they were covering the game, no doubt the next time they use toilet tissue it will have to be on their tongues to get off all the Favre poop.
Normally, I am not much of a sports fan. But this is NOT about sports. It's about pride. I get SO tired of having to apologize for being from Louisiana, of being treated like I'm dain-bramaged because I have a Southern accent. Louisiana has been the sphincter of the United States for far too long, and now that we have a chance for state pride, we're being denied it. I don't bask under the delusion that our team will beat the Colts in two weeks. Honestly, the pride is solely in the fact that at last, the Saints are no longer the Ain'ts. But we're being denied our chance to hold our heads high because the media has chosen to fawn over the Anointed One and to ignore the incredible heart and passion and energy that the Saints displayed in their NFC Championship.
It's tempting to boycott the local media, especially. If you can believe it, the only way you can find out who won the game is to wade through a bunch of local girl/boy-makes-good stories AND--insult to injury--more crap about the LIONS. Imagine that. The worst team ever, yet THEY get media coverage over and above the NFC Championship game. Unless, of course, you count the whining about "poor Favre." You'd think the Saints illegally stole something from him, rather than legitimately trashing his creaky old ass.
