On the drive here from Grand Rapids (I'm now in my office, avoiding work), I saw that the snow has receded back from the highway, revealing the winter's detritus. Along the roadside were the dessicated corpses of roadkill, the treads from innumerable re-treaded tires, old boxes and cartons, various ice chests, bits of furniture (sofa cushions and pillows), and sticks and branches and rocks. Some people celebrate the first day of March by noticing daffodils and robins. I notice what the snow has kept hidden for the last three months. We take what we can get.
I didn't even bring my coat into the building. I may need it later, but right now, I'm happy in my sweater. When I got into town, I stopped by to have myself sheared (another sign of spring--I dare uncover more of my ears!) and to take advantage of a sale on spring-like tops and cropped pants for the trip to Hawaii.
Once again, I did next to no work over the weekend, and even now, here in my office, I'm finding myself sleepy and lethargic. I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need to go to the grocery store, that I can "make do" for the next few days with what I've got. Decisions, decisions....
It has been so lovely to see the wan rays of our winter-battered sun. This week the forecast is calling for more sun and temperatures getting up around 40 or so. That will feel warm, until we return from Hawaii's 80 degrees, and then we'll be chilled to the bone all over again. Dang it. Gotta pay the piper for our fun.
