Both yesterday and today have been spectacular, warm and sunny. It's rather unusual to have such pleasant temperatures in mid-October. I must admit, we haven't taken advantage of it, deciding instead to cuddle on the sofa and catch up with recorded tv programs. Certainly, that has been pleasant. Simon curls up on the microsuede footstool so he can be as near us as he can be, and we're close enough to nap off and on against each other. There were errands we could have run, but it just seemed to be more effort than we could muster.
Of course, with the economy the way it is, it's just as well that we haven't gone out shopping. I'm seriously pondering the feasability of stuffing money into mattresses. My husband is pondering what to do with his money from his Missouri retirement. That will begin in January and be only $500 monthly, so I want him to put it into some kind of savings. He used to argue that savings accounts were foolish because they earned so little money, but after the stock market has been so crazy lately, I think he agrees that maybe boring and safe beats exciting and risky.
My sister called today with the news that there was no news regarding my cousin who is on the liver transplant waiting list. He's hoping to have a new liver any day now, but so far, nothing. She also told me her daughter Amber is having a lot of leg pain. That poor child can't seem to catch a break. She's likely to need more leg surgery before long. Sally was also reporting on finally getting a new stove. The recent hurricane winds damaged her house, and insurance paid to replace their bed. They opted not to replace the bed since the mattress seemed to dry just fine with no mildew or mold issues, and they used the money for the stove. Sally cooks much more than I do (especially these days), so I'm glad she'll have a good stove to cook on.
My older son also called today. He's got a bit of news that may or may not be promising. His boss from his internship in London has emailed him with the possibility of a position there. Needless to say, we would NOT want him to relocate to England, but it would be a great experience for him and Heather.
My neighbors from across the street have an Obama-Biden sign in their yard. There are a couple of McCain-Palin signs in yards down the street. I'm going to have to vote absentee this year since I'll be in Big Rapids on Election Day. Obama is ahead in the polls, and of course, my hopes are high, but my hopes were high in 2000 and 2004, only to be dashed.
It's late, at least for me (since I've gotten used to going to bed at 9 or 9:30 p.m. at Betty's house), so I think I'll head for bed. My husband will record SNL in case Tina Fey does her wonderful impersonation of Sarah Palin again. (And it will be shown everywhere as well.)
