Yesterday was one of the most disappointing wedding anniversaries we've ever had. Both the Esteemed One and I have bad head colds. He was running a bit of fever, and I was having chills. We ordered pizza and went to bed early. Our only toast to each other was with Nyquil. We had planned to do some fun shopping today, but it's rained all day, this miserable chilly nonstop drizzle that seeps into the bones. So he's spent half the day on the phone, still dealing with the job candidates, while I read and waited to hear from my doctor on my MRI. Finally I broke down and called, only to be forced to leave a message. The nurse finally called back just as I had settled down for a nap, so no nap today. The verdict is tendonitis and bursitis and they'll be sending me to an orthopedic doctor. It's really getting bad. The pain is similar in severity to a badly stubbed toe, the kind that makes you want to faint and puke at the same time. So obviously I want something done for it.
It's made me feel grumpy all day. I don't handle weather like this very well. Snow is in the forecast, too, making me even more depressed. It's hard to get in and out at Betty's house as it is with all the cars there. I can only imagine how difficult it will be when there is snow on the ground. Each morning this week I had thick frost on my windshield, so I'd sit there in my car as the front and back defrosters blew hot air long enough to clear the windshields. I've learned to enjoy my seat warmers, too. That leather seat gets toasty in a hurry. My husband has put my ice scraper back into my car for the season, so next week I'll get to help the defroster along by doing a little preliminary scraping. Let's hope I have sense enough to bring my heavier gloves with me, as well as a hat and scarf.
Sasha the dog was back home, safe and sound, having been accidentally locked in the basement of the barn for a couple of days. I didn't know barns had basements. Betty's place used to be a dairy farm, and the basement is where they kept the cows, or so I'm told. I haven't gone into the barn and don't plan to.
It was a long week, with conferences with students, a faculty meeting, and a dripping nose and stuffy sinuses. The only thing that kept me going was the anticipation of our anniversary, and even that turned out to be a dud.
Bah humbug.
