I've been meaning to add some final notes to previous bloglines (is that a word, or did I make it up?). The gutter-cleaners story has another mini-chapter. My doubts about their work ethic were on target. They did indeed clean the horizontal gutters, but they did not clean the downspouts. One downspout is super-clogged. So it doesn't do a bit of good for the horizontal gutters to be clean since the water can't get out on one major corner of the house (no surprise, the side where the basement leaks). Nor have we heard the first thing about them ever coming back to finish the job or to replace and add to the gutter system we already have. So much for the overly touted Dutch work ethic! (I'm not damning all the Dutch. Most of the folks I've met are incredibly conscientious, hard-working people who tend to be virtually moralistic about work.)
On a related sidenote: The other day we were passing a house that had a little garden growing in the gutters along the front. It was a low, ranch-style house, so the little fuzzy green line across the front sort of reminded me of Oscar the Grouch's eyebrow(s).
Older Son has finished his bar prep classes and now awaits The Taking of the Bar at month's end. Meanwhile, he's applied for a position teaching business law at my husband's previous employer, Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. That's where he and his wife got their bachelor's degrees. It would be ideal for him. He knows the campus, she could easily get employed at the library system where she used to work, and they'd be near enough to both her family and to our younger son and his wife. It might even help Younger Son think about returning to college. (Well, I can dream, can't I?)
I know there were other loose ends that I meant to tie up, but right now, my memory is not supplying the information. This getting old just ain't for sissies. S.
