new coffee maker

Yep. Another coffee maker. I've wanted a Bunn fast-drip commercial style pot for years, and today I found one on sale. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten about the recall, and now I'm hoping I don't have one of the fire hazards. Surely not, since that was over a year ago. At any rate, I'm still figuring out how to use this pot. It's weird. The instructions were insufficient. There's nothing in them whatsoever about how to make less than a full pot. I found out after calling my sister and talking to my niece that however much water you pour in, that's how much coffee you get. There is no timer, no drip-stop, none of the fancy stuff. I guess what a customer gets for this $100+ price is very fast coffee. Some of the reviews also complain that the coffee is weak, which is one thing I am worried about, too. Other reviews complained about overflow, and on the first pot I made, overflow did occur. Not much--just about a cup full. The coffee is at least very, very hot, which is not something the old Mr. Coffee was providing anymore.

So at this present moment, I'm waiting to be convinced. Possibly the best thing so far is that I read in the instruction manual how to clean the thermal carafe and used the instructions to clean my old Mr. Coffee thermal carafe. (Mix a couple of tablespoons dishwasher detergent into hot water and let it set in the thermal carafe for a couple of hours. Shining silver!)

I think I've developed an addiction to blogging. Not only is it fun to write about various things, but it's fun to play with writing again. Goodness knows, I don't get many creative outlets lately. If only I had time to paint and draw and sew and crochet and do other crafts.... Sigh. Dr. S.
