Celtic Woman anticipation

Tonight is the Celtic Woman concert! I'm hoping that the esteemed spouse will not wish he were somewhere else. He loves good music, but in the past, when our local PBS has shown the Celtic Woman concerts, he's opted out. It's just hard for me to imagine that anyone could pass up a Gaelic rendition of "Danny Boy." (Actually, I'm not sure they sing that song in Gaelic, but they do sing quite a few in that strange and lovely language.)

At the very least, his eyes are in for a feast--beautiful women in beautiful dresses. Me, I think they are lovely women, but what inspires me and moves me is their voices. How can someone open her mouth and have such an exquisite sound emerge? When I sing (which is always in private, due to bad reviews from my children in the past), I sound like "a dying calf in a hailstorm," as Mama would have phrased it. Mama could sing reasonably well. I'm more like my father. He was at his best with bawdy Army songs, where the humor is enhanced by the less-than-euphonic vocals. These days, it would likely be considered sexual harassment or something if it were to be known that a father of three daughters sang, "Do your balls hang low? Do they wobble to and fro?" whenever he was in a fun-loving mood.

I just hope I don't have a sneezing or coughing episode during the music. Note to self: remember the throat lozenges. I feel guilty for even exposing crowds of people to my germs, but we paid a fortune for these tickets, and I'm not about to miss hearing and seeing Celtic Woman (why isn't it Women?).

Meanwhile, I have lots of work to do before I get ready to go. The concert is at 8 p.m. I will want to arrive and be seated by 7 p.m. Esteemed one will not want to leave the house until 7 p.m. or even later. Skinny folk such as he will never understand the desire of the less-than-svelte to be seated early so that we don't have to push our ample rumps into the faces of the already-seated as we mangle and mash ourselves toward our seats.

I'm quite sure I'll have something to say following the concert, but until then..... Dr.S.
