If you want to know who your friends truly are--and which members of your family truly love you--try telling them you don't believe in Santa Claus for Adults, i.e., god. This is the first time Ellie has ever ignored my birthday. I haven't heard from her in forever. And of course I did not hear from either sister or either brother. I got a lot of Facebook wishes, many from people who don't really know me, and my family (husband, sons, daughter-in-law) made my day really special. But I got only an email (cc'd to my husband) from my mother-in-law. I got a Christian ecard from Harvey (really, Barbara). Nothing, as usual, from Kenny and Leta. Nothing, not even a Facebook greeting, from Carolyn. Oh, well. Now I know who to take off the Christmas card list. And these other people have birthdays too.
It's better than my 50th, at any rate. No one did a damned thing then.
Still, I've now turned 60. My mother died at age 60 years 9 months.
I'm not trying to do the Poor Pitiful Me thing, just feeling anger that a mythical invention has the power to destroy family relationships.
