Agony and no ecstasy

Yesterday I had the non-invasive surgical manipulation. Due to the snow storm, we got up at 4 a.m. and left home before 5 a.m. We got to the hospital shortly after 5, maybe 5:15 a.m. They wanted me there by 6 a.m.

We waited a lot, I got to dress in the ever-so-fashionable butt-view hospital gown, and finally at 8:30, I went to surgical holding, where an IV was started. (The first nurse blew my vein, so the second one got it.) Since the procedure was on the left arm, everything had to be done on the right arm (IV, blood-pressure cuff, etc.) The first nurse to attend me drew what was supposed to be an X on my left shoulder, but it looked like a bat. Dr. Bielema initialed my shoulder.

Then finally I was brought to the operating room, where I was knocked out and then I awoke a short while later in recovery, in more pain than I ever recall feeling before. Tears were forcing themselves out of my eyes, down my cheeks, and into my ears. Four shots of Fentanyl (spelling?) later, no change. So they switched to another pain killer that was supposed to be 7 times more powerful than heroin, and after two shots of that, I finally got some relief.

If anything, I have even less mobility now than before. It's hard to type because I have to lift my left arm up to the keyboard. Physical therapy is tonight, and I've been advised to take pain killers prior to the PT. I have a feeling that I'm going to be doing some major hurting later.

Then I have therapy tomorrow at 2 p.m. (with another blizzard on its way), then on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We're leaving for my older son's house on Thursday (Christmas) morning.

Did I mention that yesterday was my poor husband's birthday? I owe him big time, especially since we got stuck in the snow in our own driveway coming home yesterday.

I hurt. And I still have papers to grade and laundry to do. No picture today.
