Once again, I blew off grading until today. And of course, that means I've got a lot to do tomorrow, and I won't get all of it done. Rats. Still, I did get some grading done. Grading online is weird. Today I did my first dropbox grading. I can see how it will work for journals, because I don't mark journals, just respond to them. However, for the big projects, I need to make individual marks at various points. I can't figure out how exactly I'm going to do that.
Bad weather is on its way. I do love a good thunderstorm, especially if it happens at night. I don't want to be worried that there is a tornado on the way (and in Michigan, that hardly ever is a problem), but I do love the steady sound of rain at night. Now that we have a basement with a sump pump, though, my husband is paranoid about basement flooding. He's even rigged a system that enables him to handpump the sump system in case of power failure. I joke with my students and other "Yankees" that in Louisiana, we called basements "indoor swimming pools."
Tomorrow starts October. So far we've had uncharacteristically warm weather, with temps maybe even getting into the 80s again this week. (It hit 80 today.) Hurt me, hurt me, make me write bad checks. I could stand a few more weeks (or months) of this kind of fall weather. I am so totally dreading the snow and ice and miserable driving conditions. That will come soon enough. Then I'll be berating myself for not taking the Louisiana job.
Right now, the attic fan is humming, and the temperature is perfect. Rain is supposed to begin around 3 or 4 a.m. Here's to happy dreams. Dr. S.
