Gearing up

Shortly I'll be heading back to Big Rapids for my second week of Crossroads Writing Project. On Thursday I do my teaching demo. Then Thursday evening I'll come home to see my husband. I have no doubt he'll be sunburned and thinner and exhausted, given what he's been doing for his mom. It beats me why a man with a doctorate is the one she depends upon to dig fence post holes, but there you go. He's also managed to get in a couple of sessions of golf.

Right now I have our sheets in the dryer. Something kept me itching last night, so I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. Since I am paranoid by nature, I won't leave until the dryer stops.

It's a bit cooler today after a thunderstorm came through last night carrying nearly an inch of rain. We had a little water in the basement, but not much. I turned on the fans down there and need to remember to turn them off before I leave today. Again, me being paranoid.

I'm dreading the drive back to Big Rapids. Usually the traffic is heavier coming from the other direction on a Sunday evening, but sometimes it can be bad in both directions on a late Sunday afternoon. I'm also hoping the rain didn't blow through my fan-filled window in my apartment because if it did, the computer may have gotten wet.

I'm bringing art supplies with me so I can do my art project for CWP. I may even get a chance to do some drawing and sketching just for fun.

Yesterday I got a chance to talk to both my sons. They're really fighting the heat in Arkansas. The apartment is mainly upstairs (just the foyer is downstairs), so since heat rises, and they have lots of windows, the main part of the apartment stays about 80 degrees at its coolest. Still, I'm sure that they are cooler than my friend Mike and his family in San Antonio. This is turning into a hot summer for points South of the Mason-Dixon line.
