A Tour of the Yard

The video clip is me walking around my yard, showing what has and has not happened in terms of spring. It's kind of boring, but for those of you who live in lush tropical Southern climates, perhaps you will pity our bleak environment.
At least the temperatures are nice. I'd be happier if the forecast called for more of the same, but I'm afraid the few days of lovely temperatures and sunshine are nearing an end, at least temporarily. It's supposed to start raining tonight, with potential for snow in the Sunday night through Tuesday night forecasts. Not much snow, thank goodness. Maybe a flurry or something. Nothing like the three feet that Colorado just got. I am so very tired of winter and eager to embrace spring and summer. My students feel the same. They were so antsy to get out of class on Thursday that I took pity on them. The short story by Somerset Maugham, "Rain," is emblematic of how it feels here in Michigan when winter finally shows signs of going away. It's a totally psychological thing. Just when we begin to feel that we will never see the sun again, never feel a warm breeze on bare skin, finally we get a preview of things to come. And it will be so brief. Far, far too brief.
