Home Sweet Home

How sweet it is to sleep in one's own bed! It's been pretty noisy at Betty's house lately. Her son is moving out to live with a girlfriend, so he's been there packing and gathering his things until late. He has a loud voice that he doesn't seem to know how to tone down. I haven't seen the girlfriend, but I've heard her. She's got one of those high-pitched little girl voices. Then the person who is moving into the son's room is also kind of noisy. All this is taking place around 9:30 and 10:00 at night. The next morning, one of the other boarders (Jaime?) gets up early (around 6 a.m.) and apparently finds it necessary to slam doors and make other sudden loud noises. He has startled me out of sleep each morning this week.

Still, I am getting more sleep than I would if I were having to get up before dawn to drive to Big Rapids. I'm also getting much more work done. On Thursday I abruptly got drafted to be a member of the English BA committee and attended their meeting between 11 a.m. and noon. So I taught three classes and attended a meeting before I had to drive to Grand Rapids and teach my three-hour night class. At least I had a computer that worked in class! Two of them, in fact, since the tech guy had also left a laptop there. Still, when I finally made it home, I was in pain! My poor feet were killing me!

My spouse had managed to replace our broken copier with a new one that he found on sale for less than half its original price. It even has a document feeder! And it will do front and back without our needing to do anything. Yeehaw! I'm going to love it.

It was nice to sit there with my husband and just chat for a long time. Both of us are feeling the stress of being apart during the week. Last night he had bad news about his golf buddy Tom (not the friend I don't like, but the other one). Tom had developed a blood clot that turned into a pulmonary embolism. He was hospitalized, but everything was going well. He'll be on blood-thinners for some time to come. For me, it was deja vu all over again, given my own blood-clot history. Tom's blood clot developed because he had had work done on his varicose veins. Some kind of outpatient surgery.

It's so nice to be home. I'll likely write more later when I've had a chance to rest a bit more.
