It finally stopped raining, so maybe my husband can go to work today without worrying about further flooding in the basement. We're hoping to find someone who will repair the basement wall without wanting to do an entire makeover that costs many thousands of dollars. The EverDry folks seem to have a monopoly in town, but surely there is someone who doesn't rely on high-pressure sales techniques that try to pressure people into doing more than they want or need or can afford to do.
My older son and I spoke briefly by phone yesterday evening. A tree from across the street had been blown over, barely missing their bedroom. They'd had wind gusts up to 55 mph there.
My husband's Aunt Evelyn called last night (twice). She seems to be so lonely and desperate to have human interaction. Poor thing. I hope she gets more attention from her local niece and nephews now that the hurricane situation has quieted down.
I've got to get ready to spend the week again in Big Rapids. Oh, what fun it is to ride.... At least I'm driving there today and back on Thursday, not driving up there and back twice a week. Over the weekend, supposedly due to the hurricanes, gas prices shot up over $4 a gallon. Any excuse for graft and corruption, it seems.
Everyone is buzzing about Tina Fey's spot-on impersonation of Sarah Palin. Oh. My. God. It was so perfect. She had the accent down, the mannerisms, and of course, the look. There was even a joke about Palin's Tina Fey eyeglasses. (I keep wondering why no one comments on Palin's Amy Winehouse hairstyle.) Way to go, SNL! This is going to be a very good year for impersonations.
Alas, I need to get busy. Till the weekend, folks....
