Today we talked with our older son, who is in good spirits. His wife, the librarian, had a week off work to spend with him, and together they restored each other's equilibrium. They looked at houses, just for fun, and found one they really like. Of course, until his employment situation stabilizes, they won't be able to get a house. Fortunately, he's feeling optimistic about a position there at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville in Development. He used to work in the Development Office at UT-Austin, and this position is higher up the ladder, so to speak, a position that could use his J.D. My fingers are crossed for him. He needs some good fortune to come his way.
Some good fortune dropped into my mail box today. A year or so ago, the Marty Shapiro Management Agency represented a client who bought the option on mine and Ellie Agnew's book, My Mama's Waltz. They've now paid for an extension of that option, so today I received a nice unexpected surprise in the form of a check for over $600. (Ellie will get an identical check today or Monday.) That was a lovely emotional picker-upper, I must say. Does that mean I'm a Material Girl? I hardly ever feel BAD about getting money! I felt almost as good on Friday to get my paycheck and find that the university has finally paid me the extra $500 for attending the week-long orientation.
It's a good day. I got my car washed and tanked up, with gas that was only $3.73 a gallon, we bought groceries, and the sun is shining. So far, this weekend has last weekend beaten by a mile.
