The best gift

In nine days, my husband will turn 60 years old. For weeks, months, I have been pondering what to do to celebrate. What possible super-special gift can I get for him?

Suddenly, like a bolt of inspiration from the blue, I realized I had the perfect idea. I have purchased a flying lesson for him. He has always wanted to learn to fly, and I have always objected, for fear he'd kill himself. But this is HIS birthday, not mine, so I've set my fears aside. He will never forget this gift, and neither of us need more "stuff." Experiences, memories, these are truly what is precious and priceless.

Classes ended Thursday, and next week is exam week. I am less stressed than usual. My English 074 classes went so well that I had requested, and have been assigned, three of them for next fall. Since these are four-hour classes, my full teaching load will be satisfied, and for once, I will have only ONE course prep!

Next semester will be intense, though. I've got three Advanced Comps, one Lit for Criminal Justice majors, and one huge section of Women's Studies.

We are hoping to drive down to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to see our sons and daughter-in-law for Christmas. I'm also eager to see my grandkitties. I dreamed last night that I was feeding a couple of kittens that belonged to a colleague from work. It was an ordeal, with a special diet and a special feeding device. None of this Kitten formula Meow Mix in a bowl for them to share.

I have also purchased the soundtrack from "Book of Mormon" for a Christmas gift for my husband. As we have done for some time now, we don't really buy much for each other for Christmas. I got my new Kindle 3g Touch for myself. He got a new GPS that even shows traffic.

My sister Sheila just got out of the hospital. She is now on Social Security disability. Apparently her heart is weak, she's lost 20 pounds, and she can't keep her food down. Her son says ulcers, but I suspect just general stress. We talked for a long time yesterday.
