Since Friday

I had planned to drive home Saturday morning, but during the night Friday night, I began to have chills so violent that for two hours, I could not get warm. That was followed by fever and body aches. It felt as if someone had beaten me about the ribs with a stick. I decided to stay in the apartment, especially considering the storm that was approaching (photos to follow). Saturday I stayed in bed most of the day and slept off and on. Surprisingly, I slept reasonably well that night, which to me is always an indication that I'm sick. If I'm healthy, I get enough sleep, and that's that. I can't sleep more, and I can't stand to stay in bed.

The storm was later arriving than predicted. The original forecast had said daybreak on Sunday, but it was probably two or three o'clock on Sunday before it began to snow here. This photo was taken shortly after the snow began.

It did snow reasonably heavily, but by morning (in fact, I checked at 4 a.m. this morning) the snow had stopped. Once daylight arrived, I took this photo:

Because I am still not feeling well (right ear aches like crazy, throat is raw and scratchy), I decided to work from the apartment today. My Esteemed Spouse considers it a travesty to call in sick, but he doesn't do online work. I can do nearly as much from home as I can in the classroom. I can post assignments, I can grade, I can handle student questions, I can monitor discussions.

There was a 50-car pileup south of Big Rapids yesterday afternoon, with many injuries. I'm glad I was not out there trying to drive in it. I did not even get dressed Saturday or Sunday. Today I got up, had coffee and breakfast, and got a shower of sorts. We do have an issue here at the apartment with hot water and water flow. Two people in individual apartments will affect each other's showers in a big way, so this morning, I waited (politely) for my neighbor's shower sounds to end before I got in. I still had hot/cold fluctuations, with changes in pressure. Maybe he was shaving or brushing his teeth.

I am sipping my third cup of coffee this morning. I don't need the caffeine, but the heat feels good on my throat and ear. I guess I ought to get busy while I've got my buzz on!
