Brotherly love--NOT!

For some reason, my brother Curtis got a Facebook account and refuses to friend me. I sent him a friend request and was resoundingly ignored. I don't know what his problem is, but I hope it isn't that he resents me for what little influence I might have had on his daughter Tassina. I know I'm the family black sheep for failing to fall in line and worship the Naked Emperor but that's their problem, not mine. I'm happy with who I am, and I am not going to fake feelings and beliefs I don't have. I spent years faking it, and I never felt it. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who is as intolerant as some of my so-called "Christian" family members needs to go ahead and reserve a place in line. If there's a sure path to heaven (as they would have us nonbelievers think), then just as surely there is a sure path to hell. People who go out of their way to hurt others are on that path to hell. Not that I believe in hell, either, BTW.

For most of my relatives (and some of my friends, but not all, since thankfully I can choose friends, but relatives are a different matter), professing Christianity is one of these holier-than-thou experiences. Your feces does not stink if you are born again. Good to know there's a cure for stinky feces. It's an "I'm better than you are" sure-fire hit. It doesn't matter if someone else is smarter, more educated, richer, prettier, or whatever--if that person doesn't believe what YOU believe, then you are automatically better than they are. Right? I've got news for you, brother. Your definition of Christianity fits that little scenario rather nicely. The same is true of your two sons' definitions, if what I've read on Facebook is any indication. Too bad you had to have such a negative influence on your progeny. If I were a Christian like YOU, I might suggest that you live in a glass house at which you are throwing stones. Judge not lest ye be judged. Isn't that how it goes? I am reminded of an article that was on CNN and a couple of other places not long ago. Atheists and agnostics tend to know more about religion than so-called religious people do. IMHO, we also know more about most things, since we possess truly inquisitive minds.

On a more positive note, this Saturday was mine and my husband's 39th wedding anniversary. We spent it recuperating, for the most part, but since the Trex decking delivery finally arrived, we did have to do some work on the deck. Today's picture shows the work we managed to do. It looks like a lot, but it's easy to lay down the boards and screw them in. It's going to be the railing system that will make us or break us.

The weather forecasters are predicting a nasty day for tomorrow. They've even mentioned that the barometric pressure will drop lower than it did when the "gales of November came early" and wrecked the ship Edmund Fitzgerald. I hope the high winds they are predicting won't do any damage to our decking situation. I also hope my husband gets those old boards tied down so they don't go flying through the neighbors' windows.

I am still recuperating from the fall I took on Thursday morning. I'd had to turn out the outside light on the apartment porch so that it would not stay on all weekend, and it was dark. My shoe heel caught the step, and down I went. I twisted my hip and arm and back, and I'm still sore. We older folks ought not go tumbling down stairs, but fortunately, I caught myself (sort of) before I hit hard. It would have been easy to break something. Hip, arm, leg, head. Ouch. I hurt all over again just thinking about how it could have been, but it wasn't.

Let's see if I can get through this week without further mishap.
