I'm home, I'm graduated, and the grades are turned in. All of these events were accompanied by much ado, both good and bad. The snow hit Columbia that Friday night, keeping us in town until Sunday morning. The drive back to Michigan was awful--the roads north of Effingham were snow and ice-covered. I have NEVER seen so many vehicles in ditches. Some of them were upside down; some had drivers still sitting inside them. We must have seen 50 different slide-offs, as well as a crash of two semi trucks. They were practically wrapped around each other. We saw one semi rolled over in a ditch, looking oddly like a centipede lying on its back. It took 12 hours to make the 10-hour drive, so when we arrived home, I was exhausted. I got up at 5 a.m. to finish grading and did not get all four classes' grades turned in on time. I had to fill out paper grade-change forms for all 40+ students and fax them into the department, and now my confused students (even though I had emailed them all to explain) are wondering what "NGR" means. They'd be really ticked off with me if I didn't read their emails. Why don't they read mine?
Graduation and the accompanying events deserve a nice long post, but I'm going to bed instead. Tomorrow, Rhett, will be another day. I'll think about it tomorrow. Dr. S.
